  1. Dear, Mr. Herbert Hoover.
My name is Roberto Carlos. I use to work at a factory but then they only gave me $18 a week which isn't enough money for me to pay for food, clothing and housing stuff. There use to be a time where the minimum wage was $48 per week. My life is not very good sir. My wife Consuela is suffering from a big bad sickness. Oh yes, my family is oh so very sad. I have to raise a boy named Victor Hernandez and a girl named Kien Suarez every night and every morning. They very sad too. I feel like people like me don't get the amount of money we deserve. I think the Republican policy right now is not good because people don't get the right amount of money they work for. I'll vote you if you can promise to change the policy by dividing the profit that the companies gain evenly.

    Dear Mr. President Hoover,

We would like to bring to your attention the struggle we farm laborers here in Kentucky and all over the United States of America, are going through. First off, we would like to thank you for wonderful tariffs that you have put on exports from Europe. It has really cut down the competition. Despite this fact, farmer income has dropped from $22 billion in 1919 to $13 billion this year. And we think that a big factor in this is the competition coming from Canadian wheat farmers. Canada has a wheat industry just as efficient as us, which creates big competition. Since Canada is not a part of the USA, we ask that you, our president, put tariffs on Canadian products, such as wheat.

Finally, since our American agriculture industry has been doing so well, we have surpluses of wheat that nobody needs! The population and demand in America is very low, therefore our prices have been reduced to 50%. We are all in danger of losing our land or becoming bankrupt! Therefore, we sincerely ask that the Laissez-Faire policy be altered so that we farmers are granted subsidies for our losses.

    Thank you,

  4. Dear, Mr. Herbert Hoover
I am a wheat farmer in USA. Before America got a big boom, our income wasn'low. however, after the big boom, America started to use machines to create and produce more wheat.Due to using the machines, it made our incomes lower. Also, some rich people protest that they want to eat more fresh wheat. In 1921, our incomes decreased 50 percent. Total US farm income dropped from $22 bilion in 1919 to just $13 bilion in 1928. We are loosing our works and money. In addition,three-quaters of a million of farmers become unemplyed. We need to save our family and money is not enough to save all the families. Also, we have to stuggling against competition from the highly efficient Canadian wheat producers. In 1920s six million rural Americans were forced off the land. The most unfair thing was that our land are sold to rich farmers. This affected more than 60 milion Americans.

  6. Hello Mr Hoover, I am a black farm laborer in Junker's farm. Sadly, We black farm laborers have serious problem, which is six million Americans, mostly Black Farm Laborers, are forced off the land. When we had to leave the farm, we were mostly unskilled laborers and we couldn't find other job except for farming. we were always working in rural area or rather farming but if we are kicked out of the farm, we don't have any other jobs to do. As we lost out jobs on the farms, three-quarter of a million of us became unemployed. Also, we don't have enough money to live. We hope you to change the policy that unskilled laborers could work, so then we don't have to forced off the land.
Thank you for reading this letter Mr.Hoover

    Dear: Mr. Hoover,
I am Joe Scholes, a vegetable grower in Wisconsin and I’m sending this letter to you to let you know that the republican policies are really working. As America gets rich, more people are taking care of their health. Of course, people should think about their health much more than this. As the statistics show, much more vegetable were sold in 1928 than in 1920. This, I can say, is a really good thing as all American should care about their health and buy some more vegetables. Putting tariffs on foreign product really has boomed the industry too, and I thank you deeply for that. A possible improvement on the policy is to help the vegetable growers to mass produce some vegetables and maybe make some machines that help the growth of vegetables and fruits. The republicans are doing a good job, keep it up. Thank you for reading my comment.
    Yours truly, Joe Scholes

  9. Dear, Mr. Herbert Hoover
My name is Steven Spielberg, working the mines is hard work, and in these times working as a coal miner is not ideal. With pay as low as 50 cents a day, working 12 hours a day with over 7000 people working in the mine, for every ton of coal we extract we earn five cents. We are expendable even if one of us left or quit no one would notice, with boys as young as twelve working beside us we could spend almost 10 - 12 hours a day underground. With this low pay I cant support my family, my new born baby is suffering from heart disease and if we don’t get enough money we wont be able to pay for the treatment. She will die within 2 months if we don’t get the money. With all the other industries booming and getting lots of money the coal miners are losing money and business.

    Yours Sincerely

    Steven Spielberg

  10. Dear Mr. Hoover

We are Phuong Anh and Quynh, and we are black musicians. We have contributed to make Harlem the center of creativity and a magnet for costumers in bars and clubs. We came from a harassed black people to becoming a high profile media figure. We agree with the laissez faire policy because by having that policy, we can make money and live a comfortable life since there is no interference with musical business, therefore we live a very easy life. However, looking back at our roots, we realize that our kinds are living the life of poverty, discrimination, and intimidation. I believe that the Republican Policy is not good enough, the distance between the classes is too big. I think that you might have to change the policy and give both people, rich and poor, black and white, equal rights and chances, that would make every American live the 'American Dream" that you believe all Americans have.

  11. Dear President Herbert Hoover.
I am one of your citizens, in a middle class social status. I have been working in a bakery with my brother, and I and my brother did the same job and spend the same amount of time working, but I have got lesser pay than my brother. My brother was paid 30 dollars and I only got paid 15 dollars. In this factory, there are more women workers than men workers. I have heard that this is because women are cheaper employees than man. When I heard this, I was really disappointed. Now, I’ve stopped working in that bakery because the salary was too low. I don't want to be remaining as a housewife or a kid’s mother. I want to get a proper occupation with proper amount of money paid. Our women want equal rights as men. I kindly ask you to please consider changing the policy to a society that women and men has equal rights.

My name is Gorge Remus and I am very happy with my life now. I'm wealthy and enjoying myself selling daily use products and new technology. I came from a poor background when I was a kid but things changed since you, Mr. Herbert created the Republican polices. My life became much better and now I'm able to help other poor people or my lovely friends. To be specific, I made around $2 billion after a long hard working time. In my opinion, the Republican polices is doing a good job for America and you should definitely continue do what you are doing.

  13. Dear President Herbert Hoover,
I, Austin Power, as an American businessman, who is currently doing a business on coal mining. I am really happy with your belief toward the economies right now, which is Laissez-faire, that government should not interfere any lives of the people, and i know your job is too leave the businessmen alone to do their jobs. I can see clearly your view of point about this belief, as you think only the businessmen themselves can know what is needed to be done in order to increase the demands for the economies. I agree with Laissez-faire policies, think it is brilliant, and this makes you a good President.

Your beliefs make me become a rich man, as well as the workers working in the coal mines. Despite the complains from some workers working in other factories, i think some businessmen are not doing their job, they are exploiting the workers, by giving them a lot of work to do, and giving them small wages. I will ensure that the workers will have as best working conditions as possible. And you should know that i do not benefit myself, but i do benefit your country, making it as perfect as possible. I will try my best to make this country a perfect one as long as you keep this policy.

    Thank you,
    Austin Power

  16. Dear Mr. Hoover,
We, the United Wheat Farmers Organization, are not enjoying the recent 'boom'. The new tariff law has created a problem for our work. As Europe has become poorer from the new tariff law, they have decreased their import of our products. With the decreasing American population, we have lost many of our consumers. Although the new machinery technology and improved fertilizers have made our job easier, we do not have enough consumers to buy all of our products. Our income has greatly decreased. From $22 billion in 1919, we now have only $13 billion in 1928. We hope you acknowledge our information and help us.
    Thank you for your time,
    The United Wheat Farmers Organization

  17. Dear Mr. Hoover,

My name is Bob Bilson, and I am a vegetable grower. I am writing this letter to let you know that your Republican policy is working well for me. Lots of rich Americans are wanting fresh vegetables and fruits throughout the year, and this means that vegetable growers like me are benefiting very well. For example, the shipment of lettuce to the cities grew from 14, 000 crates to a staggering 52, 000 in just eight years! I thank you very much for introducing these policies, as I am benefiting a lot more and I am able to feed my family and earn more money! However, I have a slight suggestion. My fellow vegetable growers have voiced the same opinion. They have asked for machine help to grow the vegetables faster. I feel that if these machines are supplied, we may be able to supply the population of America with fresh vegetables quicker!

Once again, thank you for your Republican policy!

    Sincerely,
    Bob Bilson

  18. Dear Mr. Hoover,

I am Dizzy Gillespie, a black musician. I'm a singer as well as a trumpet player. Jazz music is currently getting more popular which allowed us, musicians, to be placed in the level of ordinary working-class. Harlem is located New York and is a black neighborhood. We have contributed to make Harlem of creativity. Now, Harlem attracts white customers to visit. I believe that we are becoming a high-profile media figures. We agree with the republican policies, especially laissez faire policy. Laissez faire policy allows us work on our music without any interference and develop the genre of jazz freely. I personally think that I am a really happy citizen, living a easy life.

I would also want to talk about black people in general. We are suffering a racial discrimination and treated as a third class citizens. We live in cities that are in very poor conditions. Our population did not share in the economic boom. Although I am becoming a high-profile media figure and work in the level of ordinary working-class, I am still referred as 'Negroes' and 'Niggers'. I believe that the gap of two different classes, white and black population, are too big. The republican policy needs to improve and give the black population an opportunity to share the equal rights and class with the whites.

    Thank you for reading,
    Dizzy Gillespie

  20. I am a vicious businessman, an I can say that I am living the American dream. My business is very common in San Francisco. My name doesn't matter. But what matters mister Hoover, is that I have a deal which I know you can't refuse. Your laws for the moment have been quite a benefit to our different departments. In my garage there is more then just cars. In the rivers there is more then just logs and boat, and in my kitchen I have my chicken with a lot of flour all in my pot. I will be honored to represent America in my "business"'s first trading with china

  24. Dear Mr. President Hoover,

I am Al Capone. As you may have already heard, I am a very well-known business man here in Chicago. I am writing to congratulate you for all of your thorough achievements made in bringing justice for the peoples’ lives, the American dream and our nation. Electing you as our president was by far the greatest decision that our nation-state has made. I support and appreciate all the excellent choices that you have made, and your new policies are very much respected. I passionately believe that the government should not interfere with our citizens’ everyday lives. This is where prosperity in the United States starts, laissez-faire! I believe in you Mr. President.

  25. Dear Mr. President Hoover,

Among all the urban middle-class women, I am here to thank your well-structured policies that you have granted us to live more advanced pleasant lives. Under your rule of America, our urban middle-class women are more publically opened and exposed. But as American citizens, we believe we need to be treated better and equally as men.

Before your marvelous rule, we, middle-class women have lived miserable and unwanted lives under the strict rules that women could not ever violate. Make up was the only privilege that women could have. A date with a man was what all women dreamed about, but chaperones followed us everywhere. Working to support our own family were restricted. Before your rule, all of these privileges were banned. As citizens of America, we were not treated equally as men, or gain freedom that all people around the world wanted.

But now, living in a time period in America under your rule, we, middle- class women are living more free, equal life than before. Make up and short, mini dresses are the only privileges that women can get. We are now also able to kiss with men, and drink and smoke in public. With the money we have earned, we became the particular target of advertising, and also had the power to buy any other new items to decorate our sweet home.

As American citizens, we believe that we need to be treated more equally. We believe America is improving the equal rights between women and men, but we, women want more. The main appeal of this letter is to improve the political rights of women. Men get more wages than women even though we work equally. Women cannot gain political powers, or the powers to vote for the future of America. I would like to claim that women are not inferiors, or men are not the superiors; we are equal. Therefore, we need to be treated more equally. Men are not always more intelligent than women; women can be more intelligent and wise when making decisions for America. I am here to ask you to alter the policies and bring more developed, equal lives for middle-class women to live in America.

    Yours Sincerely,

  26. Dear Mr. Hoover,
I am a white farm laborer in the 1920s- which is the time of hardship for the farmers. The government doesn’t do a really good job because prices plummeted as we try to sell our produces, it decreasing by 50 per cent. In addition, hundreds of rural banks collapsed in the 1920’s and it more than 5 times as many farm bankruptcies in the 1900s and 1910s. Which was also a serious issue: half of Americans lived in rural areas,I just receive a little demand for my labor, not enough to produce and live my life, or maybe I need to migrate to another city. A lot of people lost jobs in the farms. For me, I think Republican policies were not good for Americans because the price we got were not deserve compare to the labor that we put in. I will be more appreciate if republican policies changes to the main issue problems, decreasing prices and get less number of unemployed, receiving the same and fair amount of profits for our life.
    Thank you for reading.

My name is Amy Adams and I work in a textiles factory. Sir, I have to work 70 hours a week and they just pay me 10 cents per hour. My dad also just earns 25 cents per hour for a 70-hour week. My mom is so weak that she can't go to work. We have to use that small amount of money to take care of our family. We can't support our lives with these salaries. We have to buy food, clothing for 6 people. I hope that you can pay us as much as what we have worked. We have to eat to work better, we need house to live, we need clothes to protect our body and we need heating to keep warm. Please care for our lives.

  28. Dear Senor Hoover,

My name is Jorge Ricardo Aurelio Rodolfo Cesar Manuel Pedro Gerardo Rodriguez Gonzalez Ramirez but you can call me Jorge. When I was 12 years old, my father dragged me to America to have a better life and live the American Dream, he never succeeded those dreams and now 30 years later I am an unemployed Hispanic man living in bad parts of Los Angeles, one of so many blacks, Hispanics and sometimes whites. I used to have a job but I lost my job because of my ethnic back ground, it was so messed up. So now, I am becoming my father, the American Dream is not working out for me, my house is not big, that house does not have a chicken sitting in the pot and those two cars are nowhere in sight, and the American Government is doing nothing about it ! SO Frustrating, If I vote for you, you have to promise to get us some jobs and kill the Laissez Faire! From what I have heard, Gangsters, millionaires, and some others are doing well, but us Hispanics, Blacks, farmers, Italian immigrants aren't too swell, but the boom is helping.

  29. dear mr president Hoover,
my name is Tyler Carpenter and i am a farm laborer. I am writing this presentation to inform you that some of your republican policies have improved my life a lot. for example, the tariff policy on import products has reduced the competition between american and European products and has helped sell much more. I also want to thank you for the low taxation policy which has saved me a lot of money.
However, in 1919 the farming industry income dropped from 20 billion $ to just 13 billion $ and the farm's owners kicked three of the ten employees out of the farm: two of my friends and I, three of us being black, I consider this discrimination but I think the main reason was that farming prices increased. I also think that another reason for that was the competition between american products and the Canadian wheat producers.
even though the farming prices increased, I think that discrimination will still remain a big issue in any work places and I believe that it should stop.
    thank you for reading

  31. I am an unskilled Italian immigrant living in Chicago. The reason why I am living here is because many people recommended me to come here. They informed me that I would be able to earn more money than I did before, but my job has still not been altered. To be more specific, during slack periods, I would be "seasonally unemployed". I am not paid as much for the hard work that I do; I am just a temporary worker. I feel pity for myself-I cannot do anything but to work and maintain a low position in social-class.

We are all not satisfied with the problems we are encountering at the time being. I strongly believe that the time has come to make a difference-the government should be at the center of the renovation.
Regardless of how the governors cannot do anything due to the policy they set, I strongly recommend them to establish a new law that guarantee us to have jobs as that would satisfy as workers.

  32. Dear Mr. Hoover

Hello. I am Coal, one of the coal miners suffering from economical issues. I'm writing this letter to ask you a favor for the normal citizens, including me to have a better life.
As new industries became active these days, popularity of coals dropped hugely and lost several competitions to oil and electricity. It is predicted that it's dues to the increase of usage of machines and cars, which are making the coal useless. The impacts were too huge for us to handle. Our salaries decreased, lots of my co-workers lost their jobs and for those who still works received lowest incomes ever. Male workers were paid $18 and women only received half of the money male workers got for a 70 hour week. As you know already, we are now on a strike to prevent us from going bankrupt. We also have done some research that more than 42% of Americans are currently living below the poverty line, unable to provide themselves food, clothing, heating and housing.
Please sir. I ask for your understanding and generous supports to not only help the coal miners but every citizen suffering from the boom and industries. Please acknowledge that happy lives of America will bring more benefits to the development of our dear country.
Thank you for reading this letter and I ask once more to help us.

    You sincerely,

    COAL
